The AutodeskĀ® Civil 3DĀ® 2022 software supports a wide range of civil engineering tasks and creates intelligent relationships between objects. Grading Optimization for Civil 3D has been provided by Autodesk as an alternative approach to designing grading solutions than those that are available in standard Civil 3D. It works in tandem with Civil 3D but is a separate application which processes many iterations of the grading parameters assigned in Civil 3D to create a grading solution.

The Autodesk Civil 3D 2022: Fundamentals for Grading Optimization learning guide is designed for users that will be using Grading Optimization for Civil 3D. In this guide, you will create a commercial site containing a pond, a parking lot, and building pads. For the existing surface, a survey team collected the existing conditions, including the Mission Avenue to the north of the site. Additionally, a series of proposed roads (Civil 3D corridors) have been created and included in the existing surface. You will also work on a residential site to grade a small subdivision for proper grading of each lot.

The resulting grading can then be refined using the traditional Civil 3D grading tools, such as feature lines, grading tools, and corridors.

Topics Covered
  • Introduction to Grading Optimization
  • Zone Creations
  • Site Development
  • Parking Areas
  • Building Pads and Lots (Parcels)

Prerequisites
  • Access to the Autodesk 2022 AEC Collection with Civil 3D 2022.1 and Grading Optimization for Civil 3D version 1.2 installed. The software versions are important to ensure compatibility with this guide. Future software updates that are released may include changes that are not reflected in this guide. If using Grading Optimization for Civil 3D version 1.0, it is recommended that you upgrade to version 1.2 as known issues were resolved with the software in the subsequent release.
  • The class assumes proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. It is recommended that you have completed either the Civil 3D Fundamentals or Civil 3D Fundamentals for Land Developers learning guides. This learning guide is designed to complement the Civil 3D Fundamentals for Land Developers learning guide. However, it is not a prerequisite to have completed the Civil 3D Fundamentals for Land Developers learning guide.
  • A sound understanding and knowledge of Civil engineering terminology and grading principles is recommended.
